Next time you're on a stepper machine, spare a thought for the guy
here in green. He's jogging on a metal treadle pump, balancing with
two sticks, sucking water from the river and irrigating six acres
of red peppers.
This nutritious and economically valuable crop couldn't grow here
without the regular watering which our man here and his Oxfam-installed
pump provide.
It takes six hours to water the field - and thankfully they do it
in shifts.
